Paul Table—S.T,N.E.

This table has the kind of shape everyone has probably seen somewhere before. The kind of table you might come across in America or Europe—at a roadside rest stop on a road trip, or at a campground. I wanted to create that kind of “ordinary” table. 

The dovetail joint, which prevents the tabletop from warping, is set firmly in place, supporting the crossed legs. On either side, a brass pole holds them tightly, silently, almost holding its breath, as if saying, “Leave it to me.” The people sitting at the table may never notice Paul at all. But perhaps, when they reach down to pick up a fallen fork, their eyes will meet him for the first time. They might pause for a few seconds and think, “How lovely.”
