Still Life with S.T,N.E. #1 Naohiro Akiya ( yacipoci )

Naohiro Akiya

Owner of yacipoci (and wapiti & poru)
A man immersed in good drinks, great music, and endless hobbies. On weekends, you'll find him driving his beloved classic Mini with his wife, listening to Sanson on the stereo. And when the sun goes down, there's only one destination: the neighborhood bar.

Yacipoci, in Kitahama, Osaka, is one of my favorite places to unwind. They carefully pour draft beer using a restored Swing Kalan beer tap from the early Showa era, while music plays from vinyl records. Somehow, the combination of great sound and a perfectly poured pint makes time seem to slow down.

Morgan Sofa

Text: Naohiro Akiya

The first piece of furniture we bought together after getting married was a three-seater sofa from one of those household brands that has become a staple for starting a new life together.

Looking back, it served us faithfully for more than fifteen years.

When I turned thirty, we moved to Osaka, and that was when I first discovered TRUCK FURNITURE. As luck would have it, the showroom was just around the corner from where we lived, so we began stopping by regularly. I still remember how excited my wife and I were as we tried the FK SOFA and many of the other sofas on display. The more we sat on them, the more we fell in love, and before long it felt only natural to say, “One day, we're going to own a TRUCK sofa.”

Over the years, my passion for creating spaces led me to renovate our home and even open my own shop. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind, I always imagined how complete those spaces would feel if there were a TRUCK sofa in them.

Before long, I was fortunate enough to get to know the people at TRUCK and Bird, and eventually met Tokuhiko Kise himself. That connection made TRUCK feel much closer to us. More than simply admiring the furniture, I found myself becoming increasingly drawn to the philosophy, craftsmanship, and stories behind it all. Again, it happened quite naturally.

At first, the FK SOFA was the only sofa I had in mind. But being hopelessly indecisive, I found myself going back and forth between the DT, HN, and TS sofas. Eventually, I realized that the process of imagining each one in our home was just as enjoyable as making the decision itself, and I happily spent countless hours lost in those daydreams.

When the time finally came to buy one, my wife and I agonized over the decision. We imagined every possibility, talked it through endlessly, and even enjoyed more than a few drinks while debating it. Eventually, we narrowed it down to either the HN SOFA or the TS SOFA.

Just when we were on the verge of making our purchase, I happened to be sharing drinks with Tok, and the conversation turned to what he called “the mature TRUCK.” That, of course, was what would later become S.T,N.E.

Suddenly, our list of options had grown once again. It certainly didn't make the decision any easier. But I vividly remember how happy I felt that Tok was sharing this dream of what was to come.

At that point, the only sensible thing to do was to add S.T,N.E.'s future sofa to the list and continue wrestling with the decision all over again. (To be honest, though, I still assumed we would probably end up buying either the HN SOFA or the TS SOFA.)

Then came our first encounter with the MORGAN SOFA at Tok's home.

Having spent so many years immersed in the TRUCK aesthetic, my wife and I weren't immediately convinced. To be honest, its more modern design didn't instantly resonate with us.

But everything changed once we actually lived with it for a while—sitting on it, lying down, even bouncing on it a little. We were amazed by the depth of comfort hidden beneath its understated appearance.

No matter how we sat or stretched out, it supported our bodies effortlessly with just the right depth. Despite its generous proportions, it never overwhelmed the room. Instead, it quietly settled into the space as though it had always belonged there.

That was the moment we fell in love.

At its core, it still carried everything we loved about TRUCK.

Just to be certain, we returned to the showroom and sat once more on both the HN SOFA and the TS SOFA. But for a couple as indecisive as we are, it was remarkable that our minds never wavered.

Now, a little over a year has passed since the MORGAN SOFA became part of our home.

It no longer feels like just another piece of furniture. It's more like a trusted companion—almost like a beloved car that's always by your side.

These days, my wife and I still find ourselves dozing off on it far more often than we'd care to admit, and I can't imagine our home without it.
