Vient Stool

I sit in the Vient Chair every day.

I know exactly what makes it so good.
It’s comfortable, of course, but what I appreciate most is the gentle flexibility of rattan and the way it naturally conforms to the body, giving it a remarkable sense of lightness.

Then a thought came to me.
What if there were a stool version?

I like stools.
There’s a freedom that comes with having no backrest.

Whether I’m working or eating (which is, in a way, another kind of work), a stool always feels light and effortless.
Sometimes I’ve been sitting for quite a while before I suddenly realize there wasn’t a backrest at all.That was it.

A chair as light and effortless as the Vient deserved an even lighter companion.

I made a prototype right away.
When it was finished, it was exactly as I had imagined.

Just like the Vient Chair, the stainless steel frame is made by a pair of exceptionally skilled metal fabricator brothers here in Osaka.

They create a frame that feels beautiful without calling attention to itself.

Then an equally skilled rattan craftsman in Osaka quietly does what he does best—as if to say, “This is how it should be.” Without many words, he simply does beautiful work.

It’s not the typical round stool.
Yet it offers the same freedom to turn your body in any direction with ease.

And when you casually lift yourself up, place both hands on it, and shift it slightly, you notice just how light it is.

Lighter than I had imagined.

It somehow makes you feel lighter too.
