My eyes were drawn to a single panel photograph displayed on the shelf. It is a black-and-white image taken in Malibu by my friend Tatsuo, capturing the precise moment Joel Tudor rides a wave in a perfect hang ten.
Born in Osaka, Tatsuo spent eleven years—from 2009 to 2020—living out of a Ford van around San Diego, California. Dreaming of publishing a photo book someday, he continued photographing surfers with vintage equipment. At last, after two decades of dedication, his dream came true with the release of his photo book, authentic wave. I acquired this photograph at the commemorative event celebrating its publication.
Ever since I began surfing, the surfer I have always admired is Joel Tudor. His riding appears effortless, yet carries a quiet dignity—an unmistakable style that feels entirely his own. I was especially drawn to his film LONGER. The music flowing through it, the colors he chose for his boards—everything resonated perfectly with my own sensibility. I often found myself thinking, “If only I could move with that same ease.”
That’s it—this chair should be called “Tudor.”
This lounge chair carries a soft, almost breath-releasing “huff” sensation when you sink into it, paired with a lightness that brings a subtle joy. It allows you to relax, but never too much. There is something in that balance—the way Joel seems to let go of force while still retaining a quiet core—that feels deeply connected. Sitting in this chair while watching LONGER, perhaps I might come just a little closer to him.

For the outdoor version, the frame is crafted from water-resistant teak, paired with quick-drying cushion materials and upholstery. Designed to offer refined comfort even in open-air settings, this lounge chair delivers a premium seating experience outdoors—while naturally being perfectly suited for indoor use as well.
Teak ages beautifully over time, transitioning from a rich, deep tone to an elegant silver-gray. That natural evolution is, in itself, one of its most captivating qualities.
