Size doesn’t really matter. Even if it’s small, just sit down. Pick up a pen or a pencil — or a keyboard, even an Apple Pencil. As your hands begin to move, you may find yourself deeply focused, thinking, “Has it already been hours?” That feeling is a good one. And who knows — perhaps a masterpiece might be born.
The original design had two drawers stretching fully between the legs, from end to end. When it was nearly finished at the factory, I happened to pass by it with only the right-side drawer installed. I stopped. Ah. This is better. One side feels right. Let’s change it to just one.
We adjusted the drawer size and tested it several times. Then I opened a slight gap between the drawer unit and the right leg. It allowed the piece to breathe. The air began to flow more freely.
With a mirror, the desk can also become a dresser. Taking a moment there feels far more uplifting than quickly getting ready at the sink.
Find a place for it somewhere in your life. I believe it will add a quiet richness to the days ahead.
