Luna Side Table
I often find myself thinking how beautiful the moon is.
Of course, it’s striking when full, but I also love its slender, delicate form.
When the eastern sky is wide open, the rising moon appears enormous. And sometimes, even in the middle of the day, you see a pale moon floating above.
When abroad, I’ll occasionally look up and spot the moon. The time and appearance may be different, but it’s the same one people see back in Japan. There’s a quiet joy, and a touch of wonder, in that thought. And for some reason, I’ve always called it “Otsukisan”—with the honorific san. Maybe it’s like saying “sumo-san.”
Unlike distant stars, the moon circles the earth, and that closeness makes it feel somehow familiar.
When sitting in a chair or sofa, I always want a place nearby to set down a glass or a cup. That’s why I’ve made many “small stands” over the years. This table is one of them—easy to move, always within reach, naturally fitting into your movement.
