Chet Sofa

Not with flashy techniques, but with restraint and atmosphere.

At first, I called it the CHET SOFA (temporary) while working on the prototype. There was no particular reason.

As the evening grew dark, I ended the photo session, turned on a dim light, and put on Chet Baker Sings at a higher volume. With a strong highball in hand, I sat down on the CHET, testing the ways I had imagined it would be used. Not sitting upright, but curling myself tightly into the compact frame, or throwing a leg over the armrest. Enjoying the intentional “smallness.” In doing so, the points for improvement naturally revealed themselves.

Then I wondered, “How old was Chet Baker when he made this album?” Curious, I asked ChatGPT. To my surprise—he was only 24. The cover shows a youthful figure singing, yet what I hear is calm, mature music. It hardly feels like the work of someone so young.

In Chat’s description, there was a phrase: “Not with flashy techniques, but with restraint and atmosphere.”
That was exactly what I had in mind while shaping this sofa. At that moment, I was certain. I dropped the “temporary” and decided to name it CHET SOFA. And somehow, I’ve come to affectionately call it Chet-san.
