Alsace Side Table

Alsace is a region in northeastern France, bordering Germany across the Rhine.
I enjoy the wines of a producer named Christian Binner, and I buy them whenever I come across them.
Amazingly, his family has grown grapes organically for over 250 years. Even in the days when chemical fertilizers were celebrated, he kept to that path, sometimes seen as eccentric for it. I admire people who don’t waver, and that’s the kind of wine I want to drink.
To be honest, I’m not very knowledgeable about wine, and I can hardly remember the names.
So when I’m asked at a shop what I like, I just say, “I like Pinot Noir from Alsace, by Binner,” and that’s enough for them to understand my taste. Very convenient.
—Now, about the table. Strictly speaking, it doesn’t have much to do with Alsace itself. I just like the sound of the word.
Giving it a name I like makes it easy to say, “Can you bring me the Alsace?” Calling it by name makes it feel closer. And of course, placing a glass of Alsace wine on it feels just right.
It’s a table you can carry lightly from place to place—beside the sofa, next to the bed, wherever you need it. That ease of use is part of its charm.
The legs are set slightly into the top. That small detail gives the table one of its subtle points of character.
The top comes in two versions: oak or limestone. Each has its own distinct appeal.
